"My work is inspired by natural forms, flowers, bulbs and seed heads."
After a degree at Central School of Art and Design and a postgraduate at Goldsmith’s I became a design teacher. Eventually disillusioned with teaching, I became an IT Helpdesk manager and then a full time mother, finally returning to my first love as a potter. I prefer to work in porcelain, as its smoothness responds well to carved decoration. My work is inspired by natural forms, flowers, bulbs and seed heads. Pieces are initially thrown, then left to harden slightly before being intricately carved. After an initial biscuit firing some of them are polished and partially glazed, whilst others are painted and glazed before to being fired to 1260C. I have a portable potter’s wheel that I have taken to various venues to allow everyone to “have a go” at throwing a pot. The youngest person I helped to throw a pot was three, the eldest …. well I didn’t like to ask.
