"Hand thrown functional stoneware"
I have come to ceramics from 35 years as a wood turner and sculptor, and work from my home studio at Escot Park, in East Devon.
My first wood workshop was next door to the Leach pottery in Muchelney where I drew considerable inspiration on the philosophy and discipline of clay – which has stayed rooted with me and is now reflected in my ceramic work. I am self taught, and hand throw on a kick wheel. Using a local stoneware clay and my own wood ash glazes, I produce decorative, functional table and kitchenware, and one off pieces – reflecting a subtle Japanese influence. |
