Matt Calder

My stoneware ceramic work is primarily functional – focussing mainly on kitchen and tableware, reflecting a subtle japanese influence.
Inspired by potters such as John Leach and Sven Bayer, each piece retains an air of individuality but maintains its functionality and an undeniably unique presence.

My own glaze recipes using wood ash and salt give the exteriors of my work a soft burnt-like texture – leaving an earthy, natural and calming finish.

Work is fired to 1240 making my work practical for kitchen / domestic use as well as for display.
