"The relationship that develops between sitter and sculptor is invested in the clay modelling process"
I start with clay, occasionally fired, but most often moulded, cast and patinated by myself in bronze.
My interest is in perception and how the brain changes what is seen, to be what one wants to see. I am interested in people and how the effects of life’s traumas and joys are etched into the fabric of the flesh. The relationship that develops between sitter and sculptor is invested in the clay modelling process. This forms more than a likeness in the work as integrity and emotional currency is captured in the sculpture. Part of my work is also educational, sharing the skills of portrait sculpture in short courses to both sculptors and plastic surgeons, to aid their clinical work.
