Jill Fanshawe Kato
"my inspirations are especially the natural world and travel"
Always fascinated by the natural world, I was fortunate to grow up in the Devonshire countryside, surrounded by animals and birds.
After graduating in Fine Art from Chelsea School of Art I studied ceramics in Japan for 4 years with Yosei Itaka and worked at the mountain studio of Ryoji Koie. Subsequently I have had 46 exhibitions in Japan and exhibited widely internationally.
For many years based in London with my husband Japanese photojournalist Setsuo Kato, I taught at Goldsmiths College for 17 years and have lectured widely.
Recently we relocated to Devon and I have established my new studio near Moretonhampstead with the wilderness on my doorstep, which has given art and life a new freedom.
Exhibition
From October 12th – November 4th 2023
I will have a joint exhibition with Susan O’Byrne at Contemporary Ceramics Centre in London. See link for more information.
