Easily swayed by the clay's mercurial movement...
Here I am at home in Exmouth with the door open to the garden, working/playing with clay. I try to start a piece with an idea but am easily swayed by the clay’s mercurial movement. There may be a compromise or a victory for the clay – and sometimes I win.
Some would say I am a lazy potter letting the clay decide but I am OK with that. The shapes are transformed with different finishes – then the wonderful mystery of what happens in the kiln.
Essentially I am happy home potter and after 25 years am still trying different clays and finishes. No decision on any speciality – yet.
