"the balance achieved through the contrast of “free sculpture” and the discipline of throwing."

My first ever pottery taster session, 15 years ago was a revelation. I had finally found the creative outlet that I had been searching for. With no formal or academic training in ceramics, I have been mentored and guided by some amazing potters and friends. Inspired by nature and wildlife, I love hand modelling animals of all shapes and sizes. There is something very special about instilling the ’life’ and character of illusive creatures into a mound of clay.
Four years ago I have ‘discovered’ the wheel, and with the tuition of a fantastic Potter called Sabine Schmidt, have been throwing tableware. I love the balance achieved through the contrast of “free sculpture” and the discipline of throwing.
Having worked as a midwife for too many years to mention I can see that having “good hands but knowing when to sit on them” is a great skill in both disciplines!

I am lucky to have created my own garden studio in Exmouth, Devon.
