Sue Carr

"Sue set up her own porcelain studio but was determined to get bright colours"

Inspiration and beginnings: Sue studied Biology and Geology at University. After several years as a horticultural advisor in MAFF she moved to Canada with her husband with nothing to do! She met a potter at a New Years party and started a four year production thrower apprenticeship in a porcelain pottery. Throwing 30+ mugs off a hump every hour.

Returning to the UK Sue set up her own porcelain studio but was determined to get bright colours so set about producing her own range of glazes and using gas instead of electric kilns was able to get copper reds. The desire for colour she believes comes from a childhood spent in Africa.

The Present: Being sailors and with a desire to live near the sea Sue and her husband moved to Devon six months ago. She has set up a new workshop and gallery and continues to produce porcelain ceramics including new coastal themes.
