Katy Tunstall – Blue Shed Ceramics
"I’m particularly entranced by the delicate silhouettes of seed heads, wild flowers, trees and glimpses of birds in flight."
I am a ceramicist based in West Dorset in the heart of the Jurassic Coast. I make decorative pieces in stoneware inspired by the landscape and natural environment of my surroundings.
I am fascinated by print making processes and adapt these to decorate my work, often layering images to add an extra dimension of depth to my ceramics – particularly to depict the delicate silhouettes of seed heads, winter trees and glimpses of birds in flight.
I also enjoy applying glazes and oxides in a painterly way to express the tapestry of subtle, earthy tones of the local fields and hills.
I delight every day in the beauty of the natural environment that surrounds me and I aim to communicate this in my work.
