"I enjoy experimenting with form and surface"
| I enjoy experimenting with form and surface and most of my work is handbuilt. I am inspired by abstract forms in the natural world and love spiral shapes such as ammonites and Māori jewellery. I also like making large coiled bottles and seed forms. Naked raku has been my preferred medium but I have stopped doing smoke firing because I have a lung condition and need to avoid smoke. This means that I have been experimenting with a range of different forms and finishing techniques. I am particularly enjoying carving clay forms and have been especially inspired by Wendy Lawrence’s demonstrations and workshops.
I currently lead the WPA team which organises our Activities programme and am constantly delighted and inspired by the variety and richness of the pottery which colleagues and our contributors make. |
