Elspeth Hart
| I make hand-built domestic and sculptural ceramics, from mugs to add something special to that morning cup of coffee through to large one-off pieces. I source the majority of my clay from Devon and Cornwall and incorporate locally found materials into my work. My aesthetic balances rusticity of materials with refined forms and finishes, referencing ancient artefacts, contemporary design, and the colours, textures and rhythms of the land. I have a background in fine art and came to ceramics through an apprenticeship with salt-and-soda firing potter Margaret Gardiner in Hertfordshire. Following this I spent several years establishing my own ceramics practice in West Wales before returning to education in 2021 to undertake an MA in Ceramics at Arts University Plymouth. I have lived and worked in East Anglia, Kent, West Wales and Cumbria and am now based in beautiful Dartmoor, Devon. I show my work at selected fairs, galleries and exhibitions across the UK.I also run weekly general pottery classes and one-off workshops from my studio at Clifford Barton. If you are interested please get in touch by email, or take a look at the ‘Workshops and Classes’ page of my website. |
