"My semi-abstract female figures assert and celebrate the powers, complexities and emotional contexts of womanhood"
My semi-abstract female figures assert and celebrate the powers, complexities and emotional contexts of womanhood. Ranging from delicate hand-held painterly porcelain ladies to half-life-size stoneware women, they stand strong and firm but are also softly curvy, gently rhythmic and very tactile, with colours and textures reminiscent of nature and the coast.
The figures are hand-built in paperclay using coils and flattened rolls to produce the form which is then pushed, pulled and carved into shape. Coloured slips, glazes and oxides are added to the textured surface and the work is fired to stoneware temperature (1250 degrees) in an electric kiln. The figures can be displayed either inside or in the garden.
