Professional self-taught potter & sculptor living in Torbay. I specialise in wood fired, Raku and smoke firing techniques. I work from life and photographs. Interested in capturing movement and attitude of a subject. Making up to life size figures, wood fired in my own 40cu.ft. homemade kiln. Each sculpture is completely unique.
Surface texture and glaze effects are important to my work. The Raku pieces are removed from the Raku kiln at 1000’C, sprayed with water and buried in sawdust to give different glaze effects.
The Wood fired work is fired to 1000’C, given a random smoke effect, sealed and wax polished. The work is not frost proof.
I use all types of clay, making my own body mix including paper clay and glazes. I have designed / built various gas and wood fired kilns.
Work in personal collections worldwide. Commissions welcome.
