"I enjoy the rhythm of handbuilding, using various techniques to produce my unique designs"

Based in North Somerset, I have been a fulltime potter since 2005. Making work for gardens combines my interests in plants, landscape and clay. I aim to make pieces that will harmonise with outdoor surroundings, providing a visual focus throughout the year.

I enjoy the rhythm of handbuilding, using various techniques to produce my unique designs. Sizes range from tiny pebbles (8cm long) to sculptural forms (60cm or higher). Surfaces are burnished, impressed, carved, scraped or inlaid to give distinctive texture combinations. Colour is generally added with slips and oxide washes, with occasional use of glazes. My work is fired to 1280oC in an electric kiln, and is frostproof.

A sculpture, planter or wall plaque can be a special way of commemorating a significant occasion or loved one and I am happy to discuss commission or personalisation ideas. My studio is in the new ‘Art & Artisans’ courtyard at Middlecombe Nursery, a long-established family-run garden centre in Congresbury with a café open all year. Visitors are welcome to browse my retail display or watch me work, but an appointment is advisable as I am not there every day.
