C. M. Ceramics
Everything is unique... the wildness of West Cornwall, the elements of earth, wind, water, fire and air.
Hello.
I have been a full-time Ceramicist for 15 years having studied Ceramics at Canterbury Christ Church in the early 90’s.
Having moved to beautiful Cornwall and “retired” from Primary Teaching 2010, I dabbled for a while exploring shape, visiting local galleries and looking for something different. I’ve always been interested in textures, marks and fire! I love the freedom of Raku, the danger, life and sheer colour of Raku Firing; it’s exhilarating.
I cast fish, brought into nearby Newlyn Harbour, donated by the fisherman of Cornwall. Each fish is individual like us! My fish can be bought individually to hang vertically or horizontally as a statement piece or hung to create a shoal, which look amazing even if I say so myself! I Raku fire and also use low fired glazes in my top loading kiln, I constantly experiment and push the boundaries.
I collect seaweed to add texture across my work, there are so many types washed up on the shoreline. I also hand build Giant Mussels, cast found shells, and make individual vessels as decorative pieces.
I also create small tiles of wild flowers that I collect on specific sections of the Cornish Coastal Path, placing the flowers into clay, under glazing and framing them make for very specific selection of flaura and fauna from say Trevellas and Trevaunance Cove. Commissions can be taken for individual walks!
