Silver Birch Ceramics

Textural ceramics with influence from nature.

My work takes inspiration from the natural world around us. I work predominately in Stoneware and focus on textures and form. Silver Birch are my favourite vessels combining wild clays from Dartmoor and Isle of Wight to create life like bark features of these amazing trees.

I also enjoy the meditative process of shaping Moon Jars and carving Fig Vessels. It allows the potter to get totally lost in the mindful process of making them, bringing a closeness of the potter to each piece. The rhythmic motions required to create the Moon Jars takes on a deep bond between the maker and the vessel. What starts out as a simple clay coil takes shape and morphs into a beautiful jar with curves and textures which are created during the making process.
