"I work with a printmaker’s eye, I have always loved mark making and sgraffito work lends itself to this"

I work with a printmaker’s eye, I have always loved mark making and sgraffito work lends itself to this, it has the same feel and a similar look as lino print and my drawing with pen and ink. Mark making is vital, as well as its decorative quality.
‘Sense of place’ is important to me, where I live in the Tamar valley and Dartmoor affects my work. Wildlife and nature have an impact, my love of my garden, and the structure of trees and the shadows that come from the sun on the valley, the reflection of the trees on the river Tamar.
Monochrome lends itself meaning to my work and that the layering, although the layers are two-dimensional panels they make a three dimensional story, giving shadow and structure to my work. The panels tell a story, like a popup fairy book, a story from my childhood.
