Katharine Barker

My work consists of abstract, sculptural pieces, decorated in a painterly way, often with free brushwork on textured surfaces, making use of resists, oxides and the occasional splashes of glaze.  Pieces are hand built using stone and earthenware.

My inspiration is my new home of far west Cornwall, the pre-history, standing stones, Iron Age constructions framing the landscape and, on the coast, the effects of sea and waves on surfaces.
