Kirre Ceramics
Elegant forms hand-painted in neutral tones, inspired by nature and folklore.
As a potter I am drawn to the creation of simple, elegant forms in neutral tones. Working exclusively in stoneware and in love with throwing, the inspiration for my hand-painted designs is found in my love of our native flora and fauna along with the ancient myths, legends and folklore of Europe.
I first began to explore ceramics as an antidote to the stresses of the modern world. Later, when searching for a name to encapsulate my work I landed upon the German word ‘Kirre’. With its dual meaning of ‘tame’ and ‘crazy’ it perfectly describes the extraordinary ability of clay to bring a sense of peace and stillness to my world.
My intent is to produce a functional body of work which in turn brings a little of the beauty and magic of this ancient craft to your everyday.
