from wheel to flame, a journey in clay
I first discovered clay in 2015, and from the moment I sat at the wheel, I was hooked. What started as a creative outlet quickly became a deep passion, and by the end of 2019, I made the life-changing decision to leave my job and pursue pottery full-time. It was both exciting and daunting, but working with clay every day has been the most fulfilling journey.
In 2021, I was introduced to wood firing, and it completely changed my perspective on the ceramic process. The unpredictable nature of flame, ash, and the reduction atmosphere creates surfaces that feel alive, and I love the way each firing tells a unique story. There’s something incredibly rewarding about the communal aspect of wood kilns—stacking, stoking, and waiting to see how the fire transforms the work.
More recently, I’ve started exploring gas firing, which offers a different but equally fascinating approach to reduction firing. Experimenting with reduction and glaze chemistry has opened up new creative possibilities, and I’m keen to continue experimenting with these different firing methods. No matter the process, my goal remains the same: to create pieces that feel both grounded and expressive, shaped by both my hands and the fire itself
