Social Firing Days
Social Firing Days 2026
Venue: Tarka pottery, Glebe Farm, Little Torrington, Devon, EX38 8PS
Dates: Wednesday 15th July or Thursday 16th July. Note that members can choose one of these days but not attend both. 10.00 for 10.30am prompt start – 5 pm approx. finish
Social Firing days are an important and popular part of the programme of activities for the association. They offer a chance to decorate and fire pots together using techniques of raku, obvara and barrel firing. We always learn a great deal from each other and produce some stunningly decorated pots. We are very lucky to be able to do this at Jax Williams studio and grounds in lovely surroundings with good facilities.
Please note that we will be operating for two days but with two different groups of members so as to be able to offer the experience to more people. It is a member’s only event and you will be able to choose which day you attend but not come on both days.
Full details are available in the March edition of the association magazine.
BOOKING Numbers will be limited to 17 people each day. The cost will be £60 per head, and it is a member only event, no guests.
Booking will be by Ticket Tailor and all members will receive an email inviting bookings on Monday 23rd March. You can also book for day 1 using this LINK DAY 1 or this LINK DAY 2 for a ticket for day 2. Please do not attempt to buy tickets for both days.
Tickets will be available from 11 am on Saturday 28th March. Booking will be on a first come first served basis and you are advised to book as soon as tickets are available as it is always a very popular event
If successful, you will need to make and biscuit fire up to five pots ready to decorate and fire on your chosen day. Full technical details including recommendations of suitable clays, burnishing etc are available in this section of the Association website and I will send copies to everyone who is successful in getting a place. Please make sure that any pots you make fall within the size requirements as we cannot fire pots which are too large.
We will also hold a Zoom based Knowledge Bank session on Wednesday 29th April giving more advice and guidance and send application details to all successful applicants.
Further information will then be supplied to those coming in late June.
