Annual demo by Peter Hayes at the AGM. Kenn Centre, Sunday 17th March 2024
In the morning session Peter gave a superb presentation and talk. He used a wide variety of wonderful photos of his work. Many photos showed the numerous countries he has visited, the people he has worked with and met there and their pottery traditions. This has clearly influenced his pottery and his thinking and philosophy. He spoke with great humour about his experimental approach to making his work and about his experience and friendship with several nationally respected potters.
Peter’s demonstration in the afternoon was a refreshing and highly stimulating delight. He worked with great freedom mixing a range of clays together and adding unusual materials such as glass, wood shavings and molochite which he then fashioned into bases for some finely made porcelain pieces. He mounted these pieces together stressing the importance of the contrast between relatively rough bases and more elegant tops of the resulting sculptural pieces.
We were all captivated by Peter’s free approach to his work and his range and depth of experience. A wonderful day.
