Abbie Gardiner Ceramics
"Strong forms that utilise scale, surface quality and repetition."
Abbie Gardiner (BA Hons Interactive Arts) hand-builds sculptural and functional ceramics in a small studio on the edge of Dartmoor. She manipulates flecked and grogged stoneware clays using methods involving soft slabs, pinching, coiling, casting, press moulding and carving. She trims, fettles and stamps leaving the surfaces marked with subtle tactile memories of the making process, then adds matt colour to emphasise the silhouette. She constructs strong forms that utilise scale, surface quality and repetition to create playful, animated and engaging pieces. She is interested in ideas around connection and communication, exploring the attachments we make with one another through the relationships between the objects themselves. She looks to nurture the relationship between the objects and their audience, inviting them to be held, touched, engaged and interacted with.
