"Memories of patterns and designs that have since influenced my decorating process"
After ‘discovering’ clay, just a few years ago, I have now begun to build up a body of work which is inspired by my twenty years in the travel industry – many of which were spent throughout Asia and the Middle-East. Being surrounded by traditional artwork, architectural carvings and beautiful textiles left me with memories of patterns and designs that have since influenced my decorating process. I generally work in white stoneware, using oxides and stains to produce coloured slips to coat the forms. Using the technique known as ‘sgraffito’ I carve individual designs through this layer, into the white clay below.
My work is left unglazed to give a raw, organic feel to the work.
I graduated from Plymouth College of Art with a BA(Hons) in Ceramics in 2019 and have since set up a small studio in Ashbrittle, Somerset where I am continuing to experiment and expand my working practice.
