"Shape and textures in nature are important in my hand building"

Shape and textures in nature are important in my hand building. I use different types of clay, stoneware, tough and gritty lends itself to the rugged rock formations. The addition of oxides, glass and metals produce coloured and textured surfaces. Poppy heads are made in red and white earthenware and burnished, some are red glazed, others smoke fired. The versatility of paper clay gives strength and fragility to poppy flowers which are then given a striking red glaze. More sculptural work with additions of glass and metal is planned for the future.
