Craig Underhill: A day of inspiration and expertise
Craig Underhill led the demonstration and workshop with WPA members on Sunday 7th November. Sharing his story, advice and skills with an eager and receptive audience over over 50 potters he shared his personal journey from Fine Art undergraduate at Portsmouth Polytechnic to renowned sculptor as he his today. The demonstration featured the creation of a range his sculptural forms, demonstrating a range of techniques in hand-building and decorative finishes.
Whilst working with stoneware to slab-build his forms, he talked through the processes including his use of engobes to provide colour, with monoprinting and stencilling to add graphical elements. Craig masterfully managed excellent responses to the many questions from the WPA members whilst shaping a number of striking and impactful slab-built sculptural pieces.
Chris, WPA event photographer, captured not only the highlights of the day but was also the lucky winner of the raffle, taking home a prized Craig Underhill sculpture.
